Job Interview Question – How do you make decisions?

When the interviewers ask you the job interview questions will help you answer the interview question “How do you make decisions?” they are trying to find out more about your personality. Are you someone that makes quick decisions without thinking, are you someone that takes a long time to make decisions, or are you somewhere in the middle between these two extremes.

What the interviewers want to hear in your answer is that you have a process that you go through for important decisions. Below I have a suggested process that you can go through in making decisions.

  1. Gather information
  2. Consult with others
  3. Think about it
  4. Make your decision

Gathering information means that you will try to find out more about the things you need to decide upon or about. The consulting with others step is another form of gathering information where you are asking their opinion or for information. The interviewer probably does not want to hear that you are asking others what you should decide. Before making a decision you should also think about the information you have gathered as well as what others have said. Then, after going through this process, you can make your decision.

This is a simple process that you can go through to make a decision and it is a process that you can tell the interviewers that you go through when they ask you “How do you make decisions?”.
